3. Do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth.

4. Cover your nose and mouth with your bent elbow or a tissue when you cough or sneeze.

5. Stay home if you feel unwell.

6. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention. Call in advance.

7. Follow the directions of your local health authority.

PSSL Celebrates World Pharmacists Day

The Pharmaceutical Society of Sierra Leone (PSSL), Western Area branch with motto:” with honor and pride we preserve our noble skills” has celebrated the World Pharmacist Day on the theme:” From Research to Healthcare, Your Pharmacist is at Your Service,” at the Miatta Conference Hall, Youyi Building, Brookfields in Freetown on 25th September 2017

The event attracted high medical professors, including the guest speaker, Professor Tiwalade Olugbade, Professor Margaret Afolabi from Nigeria, President Pharmaceutical Business Association, Registrar, Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone, President, Pharmaceutical Society of Sierra Leone and Director, Directorate of Drugs and Medical Supplies in the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS).

Guest speaker, Professor Tiwalade Olugbade who speaks on the case study of inter-professional cooperation also deliberated on clinical relevance of integration, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (TDM) in the management of chronic myeloid leukemia with Imatinib in Nigeria.

Prof. Tiwalade further admonished Pharmacists to have passion for their profession which he describe as value and decent with respect for humanity at all level noting that, Government and donor partners will be involved in undertaking complex projects which require huge financial support.

He encouraged Pharmaceutical Students to pay attention on the research scheme which he said, will expand and improve their skills to enhance the needed number of Pharmacists in all Government facilities and private clinics.

Speaking on behalf of the Pharmaceutical Society of Sierra Leone, (PSSL) President, Alhaji Pharm Murtada Sesay said the occasion was organized by Pharmaceutical Society in Sierra Leone simultaneously across the length and breadth of the country with similar activities to reflect on the status of affairs of our country’s Pharmacists.

He emphasized on the importance to continue educating the general public by organizing sensitization programs in various communities for them to have knowledge on the role of pharmacists who he described as key stakeholders.

He said the theme should also focus on community involvements and inclusion of all concerned authorities noting that the research activities of pharmacists should not only stop in the laboratory but should also reach different communities with cogent information on how the proper use of drugs.

He expressed thanks and appreciation to all who supported the all-important occasion especially MoHS and other relevant institutions.

In his brief statement, the National Public Relations Officer (PRO) of PSSL, Alusine A. Musa informed the gathering that the event will continue with other activities that have to do with the launching of the Pharmacists Magazine Book, Website and other fund raising activities that would better transform the profession.

He concluded by appealing to stakeholders and young Druggist to come onboard and renders support so that situation may be rescued.
